M. S. (Sweden): A day to be remembered

Satuarday 25 of July

Some friends have held a hunger strike in Stockholm main square in support of Iranian movement for democracy and in particular as a voice against the Islamic republic suppression of people by imprisonment , torture and killing.

This morning I was extra busy; I needed to do some personal errands. I had decided to meditate and pray for the welfare of my country. This was very important to me. Buying some green fabric and some meters of green satin band was also on my planning. I found my self looking for the right colour of band (we women!) at about 3 o’clock. I hadn’t had a chance to have either a breakfast or a lunch

Demonstrations started at 5.30 pm. A manifestation in sympathy with the families who missed a dear one was held already at 4 o’clock. A group of activist young student has printed their own T-shirts and had asked us together earlier near the site of demonstration to receive our T-shirts

Well, I had got to meet my daughter and eat lunch with her before we headed toward the main square; Sergels-torget. She had been given the responsibility to be one of the “securities” and also we had invited our representative in the Swedish parliament to be one of the speakers of the day. We needed to meet her in advance and we wanted to offer her one of our homemade green bands. Of course I needed to get home and start to cut all the green materials I had managed to buy.

Some friend and family were coming from the cities closed by and I was also to meet them at the train station

Let’s says I was tight on time.

To make the long story short we managed everything even to get a parking spot in the downtown of Stockholm City!!!

At the Sergel Square, thousands of people had gathered (officially more than 5000). Three- colour flags of Iran and three colour balloons were mixed with the green t-shirts, and green bands of the movement. My sisters showed up with green T-shirts and you know what they had one for me too! I already had a green huge scarf rapped around me. I had also a t-shirt from the young student activist. I had no more place for the “family green T-shirt “on me!!

The demonstration started, speaker after speaker, representative from different political parties of Sweden together with the live music performance by Iranian artists and public shouting slogan every now and then.

Iranian Cap-drivers showed up with their caps ornamented with pictures and slogans like: “Ahmadi Nejad is not Iran’s president” They had derived around the city and now they joined the crowd.

At 8 pm the demonstration at the square ended, Notice “ at the square”. The crowed headed toward the Russian embassy. It is a 45 min – one-hour walk. The elderly and sick were offered rides by the cap drivers

Swedish people in the streets showed their support for our cause by lifting their fingers in V. We approached the embassy. A helicopter followed us. Russian embassy had refused to receive the letter we wanted to hand them. After about an hour, we said goodbye there to each other, offered the police our flowers and thanked them for their good job.

I had to go back to the tent were the hunger strike was previously held. I had some stuff there I need to pick up cause that day was the last day the tent had permission from the city. Some 30- 40 persons were there. An Iranian woman had made food, polo lobia , and everybody was eating and the spirit was high, guys and girls were being funny and we felt like being with our “yare dabestani man” - my old school mates

Some went ahead to relax at a restaurant, some started to bring down the tent. We and another family went to a hamburger place, had some non serious talks and before heading home, about 12 pm, we visited another spot in the city, in front of the parliament, where other Iranians have a manifestation, they have been sleeping on the pavement for more than a month now.

By 2am 26 of July I was finally at home

.

Call it a day to be remembered.
